“Hi Brian
Just a short piece that may look good on your website. I’ll try and get you some nice photos soon.
Regards
Paul
On Thursday 15th March I took delivery of my new Vigilante 33 “MV Caitlín Marie” from Lyme Boats. She was launched by crane at Rathmullan pier in Co. Donegal and after some final adjustments, accompanied by my father James McGonagle we set sail on our maiden voyage home to Kincasslagh.
As the boat enterred the water at 8 o’clock on that Thursday morning my first impression was one of great joy as the big day had finally arrived.
We departed Rathmullan at 12 o’clock as the tide flowed out Lough Swilly meeting a stiff force 6 breeze at Fanad Head. As the wind and tide met we encountered some large breaking waves and I immediately became aware of the impressive sea keeping abilities of the Vigilante 33. At 15 knots, she just eased her way through the breaking seas leaving me feeling totally assured that I was in a safe and solid boat.
As we rounded Fanad Head we also left behind the rough conditions at the mouth of Lough Swilly and it was time to let the 350hp Caterpillar stretch her legs. We cruised comfortably at 16 knots at 2200rpm and we also recorded a top speed of 22.3 knots. Passing Horn Head, we set our heading for Tory Island where we made a short visit before the final leg to Kincasslagh.
On enterring the harbour at Kincasslagh we were greeted by a large crowd from the local community along with some photographers and journalists. We berthed along side the pier at 3:30pm and we hardly had time to secure the ropes before people started boarding for a closer look. As the feeling finally sunk in that I was the owner of a new Vigilante 33 pepole wished me well and commented on the great build quality and attention to detail of the boat.
I’m over the moon with my new vessel and it’s a credit to Brian and Julie Pogson and all the crew at Lyme Boats who have made a magnificent boat. “
